Having recovered Angel, Max and the flock head to New York City to pursue a lead regarding their true identities. But where the flock goes, erasers are sure to follow! Even more troubling, though, is the voice that's begun whispering in Max's head. It starts to give her instructions and advice. Is it really her destiny to save the world?
This is the second manga adaptation of James Patterson's Maximum Ride novel series. It is based on the events from chapter 62 to chapter 134 of The Angel Experiment. It continues where Volume 1 left off, which is when Jeb Batchelder told Max that it is her purpose to "save the world."

Story[]
Chapter 8[]
In the beginning of Chapter 8, the Flock is locked up. Max has a flashback on what Jeb had said to her. But her thoughts were interrupted when Ari and his gang came in. When Ari was banging on Angel's cell, Max gets highly annoyed and starts making insults to Ari, which only makes his temper worst. The Flock was wheeled out, where Max bites Ari's hand. As a result, Ari picks up Max's cell and throws it toward Nudge's cell, accidentally letting her free. Soon enough, Nudge helps the rest of the go free.
The Flock then settles down in a cave, where all of them fall asleep immediately except Max and Fang. They have a brief discussion about where to go, and decides to go east.
Chapter 9[]
Max and the Flock are up in the air, when Max has a headache. She begins to fall, but Fang catches her. They settle down at a campsite. This is when Angel reveals what she has learned at the School, which is when the Flock wakes up. She talks about everybody's (but Max's) DNA. She also goes over The Institute, which makes Max curious. Tired and sad of the news, the Flock goes back to sleep.
Max wakes up everybody, high in spirit. As she was about to get breakfast, she has a second headache, in which Fang catches her (again!). After reassuring Fang she was okay, she decided the Flock would go to New York.
Max and Nudge has a conversation about Nudge's parents. When Nudge was worried that her parents wouldn't accept her because of her wings, Max reassures her, saying "It seems like if they're your parents, then they should love you no matter what... even if you're different." Gazzy interrupts the conversation, shouting that they were finally in New York. The Flock settles down at a park for the night.
In the morning, Fang wakes up Max, saying that they should get out there, since there were security guards (Erasers) surrounding them.
